  1. Most of the lands where the indigenous live are very far away from the capital. That’s the reason why they don´t have all the recourses we have here, in the center of the country. This people are very close to they’re lands, they believe in a better world; they want a green world, where nobody cut the trees or throw the trash in the rivers, and things like that. Having this thought, we can think the indigenous people are guilty of their bad life conditions. But the State has guilt too. Because they don´t help this people all the time, in this part of the country exist sad stories, about moms who walks a lot kilometer to save the life of her child, to take him to a clinic or hospital. They don´t have those recourse close, so, there’s a lot of people who die before get to the medical services. I think the State can have maybe some cars or ambulance, with these, people can go faster to medical serves and save their life’s. So the people who wants help need to collaborate with the State, and the State has to engage with this part of the country. Also, another services they don´t have are potable water, some parts don’t have electricity, and also don’t have school’s or high schools.

  2. The indigenous people of Costa Rica have many problems, such as access to medicine.
These people are often bitten by snakes and they have walked up to 4 hours to be seen by a doctor.
Sometimes they are not informed of natural disasters as in the case of Hurricane Otto.
They are located very long from the capital and this makes it difficult for them to have all the services they need.
They recently wanted to build a hydroelectric dam in an indigenous zone And although there are laws that protect these indigenous areas many people did not care.
I believe that we must respect these people because they are the roots of Costa Rican people.
They have the right to have access to all services so that they do not suffer diseases or necessities.

  3. Costa Rica has a large indigenous population around the country. These people are the history and culture of our country. They live in the mountains or places of difficult access, away from the central areas or cities.
My personal opinion of these people is really abandoned to the government. They don’t have public services, social security, doctors or others. They are citizens of our country and have rights for a dignified life, equal to all the people like the president or the secretary or myself.
It is necessary to incorporate to the society to these people with good actions or plans of government. These plans must have benefits in all economic, social and cultural areas. For example, bring specialist doctors and receive all the necessary medication in a sick person or be treated in an accident. More education, getting potable water, electricity, good jobs, roads and transportation, cultural places where people know their culture.
Currently many indigenous people die because they can’t attend the hospital or medical place because they do not have the money to pay social security or do not have transportation to these places or spend hours in the city.

  4. I think that in Costa Rica people need more solidarity with indigenous communities. Because I think that in Costa Rica people need more solidarity with indigenous communities. Because every day, they face a shortage of resources, for example: some communities don’t have drinking water or electricity, this type of situation put them at a disadvantage with respect to the people of the city, because they cannot perform various activities with the same ease. On the other hand, some children don’t have opportunity for education; because the schools or high schools are far away of their house, therefore this people have to walk many kilometers to arrive to their places of study. But, it is important mention that during this route these children or young boys face some dangers. Other aspects that affects these communities are the access of social security, because it is very difficult for them, walk a lot of kilometers to attend the doctor them. Also is difficult to the government. For these reasons, many people die every day, because they don’t have the necessary resources to detect a disease on the time. I believe that it is important that indigenous communities, government and society let reflect about this situation. Is time that let join forces and resources, to give to these people a better quality of life. Also, I think that it is necessary a change on mentality of our part, because we need to approach to they and offer help. How it is possible that foreign people are doing a job that is our obligation? As protect, bring food or medical care to these communities. Finally, we need respect their culture and beliefs, this is a way to them to incorporate our society, additionally is really important prevent them from feeling threatened.

  5. In my opinion, I believe that we need be more national support groups, it is not possible that foreigners are the ones who take the first step to fix the life situation of our country's indigenous people.
I consider that YES, they are excluded, because they have a different culture and live in places so far from cities with difficult access to the areas.
Maybe they haven’t been taken into account, because we don’t have the same needs as them, but something is certain, we all need medical services and drinking water services to be able to live in a healthy environment. We need campaigns be done to help for 3 days, but we need even more open hospitals or clinics for those who live in the area.
There must be greater indigenous representation in decision-making, access to identity cards and help to participate in decision making in the country should be facilitated.
We should also educate the rest of the population, to they have respect for the indigenous culture, since many don’t consider them as equals and for that reason they deprive them of their property and land.

  6. The indigenous population is located around the country and it's a culture that must be protected.
The country has made a great effort to help them in what they can see differents ways: giving them lands to cultivate, education, among others. However as these communities are in remote areas, for this reason access to medical care is difficult. Also, these communities do not have access to some social services that are indispensable for a healthy life.
Generally, Indigenous people must walk for hours to reach a health center; in case of emergency many of them die as they can not reach these centers unless they are taken them by helicopter and this is somewhat impossible because there is no way To communicate.
Although other countries campaign to help this population; I think we should remember that they are part of our country and make campaigns to be able to help them as well. However, many times we forget that we can do something for these people and we only hope that other countries will worry about something that does not belong to them; I think we should be aware and assume the responsibility.

  7. I think that great efforts have been made to connect our indigenous communities in our country, the authorities and the emergency commissions have used different methods such as the establishment of temporary hospitals in the indigenous communities and in addition they have been taking provisions by means of helicopters and drones as the news indicates, humanitarian campaigns are constantly being carried out with the help of different government officials and citizens. In addition to this we have tried to communicate to these communities by providing them with electricity, telephony and internet. However, despite all these efforts made most of these communities continue to suffer from marginalization, many people do not know of the existence of these communities, in addition to that some of these must walk long distances that can last up to 10 hours to arrive to a hospital, in addition to the difficult conditions they have to get out and receive good care, this can be improved by strengthening these communities by helping them to progress.

  8. The indigenous communities of Costa Rica I consider them as initiators of the country, are our ancestors who started the country in aspects such as culture, traditions and development promoters in the years of colonization and ancient periods.
However, today the indigenous in this country have been a little forgotten and the different governments do not have much interest, and this is a serious problem because these communities are going through very difficult situations by their community realities.
Some of the realities that these have are the long distances they must travel to obtain public services, the lack of economic help by governmental entities, affected by different climatic aspects.
These realities cause these communities to pass needs and from the country and taking into account my personal opinion these communities if they are in abandonment.
As a student of engineering in agrobusiness one of the ways to support this is to develop and conduct studies in the agricultural area in order that these people achieve economic support and meet the basic food and family needs.
As well as another option would be to continue giving and give you this type of aid that the United States provides in order to also give more complete support to different communities.

  9. I think that the indigenous communities in Costa Rica are not abandoned, the government supports them in addition to international collaboration such as this case, however I believe that to incorporate the indigenous communities to society are required that eventually they have contact with us, is Say for example attend our universities, jobs, etc; Without losing their culture.

  10. Well, I think that most of the indigenous people in Costa Rica have a hard situation because they live so far from the city, they live in mountains, so, to have access to different necessary things is harder than people who lives in the city or another areas. Some of the problems they have are: good education (or equal education), access to medicines, means of transport, roads, etc. Also is important to take in consideration the poverty, that is another factor that get hard the indegenous situation. Referring to if they are really abandoned people, I think that yes, because the most of the people don’t worry about their situation, even the government should take part of this and worry more about it, because they too are “ticos”, only because they have a different culture or different life style does not mean that they are not part of Costa Rica, they need our help. In case to try to incoporate them to our society I think that is difficult because they have their own culture, but the government (even volunteer groups or NGO's or someone that wants to help) should do different activities to try to include them and make them feel better, make them feel they matter us, make more humanitarian aid like the recent. Also could be like social activities for all them, like parties to kids even for the older people. That kind of activities will be awsome for them.

  11. I think that in our country has many people in difficult conditions, including the indigenous people living in mountainous areas throughout the country.

The indigenous people are very important to Costa Rica, because they are represent a part of the culture and traditions of Costa Rica.
I think so the indigenous people aren't excluded for the government, but the government doesn't make a campaint to help.

The government must implement programs that promote development in indigenous areas. I think that, the study is necessary to introduce indigenous person in the society.

Around the world, many people help vulnerable people through campaigns or volunteers. it's a excellent idea to improve our relations.

  12. Many indigenous communities of Costa Rica have a lot of problems not only with the medicines also with food, roads, educations and more important things. The indigenous people receive economic aid but not all of them can go to the city or bank for the money.
If the government cares of them they would have better conditions, better education and better basic services for them. But what that’s what is happening, the government don’t care about the indigenous communities they only received things when humanitarian mission from other country bring basic things.
Why the United State needs to bring their own helicopters? We have to thank the United State for all they support because Costa Rica doesn’t want to do it, prefer to spend their money in things like “la platina” “la trocha”, the prisoners and the high salaries of the deputies.
Costa Rica need to thing and be dedicate a better plan about this important case, because they are people like all of use and they have rights and are part of our country. And the government need to remember that they are the real owners of this lands, and they need a lot of help not only the government want or when other country makes a donation.

  14. In most of the time the indigenous areas are left in the forgetfulness of the country without receiving some help, it is not of lying that these zones receive from some time some help but this one is not continuous for the necessities that suffer.

Because the places where they live are extremely far from the capital so also to make use of some service they are difficult, these people presents a very different mentality to all the others present a different life despite the year in which we live that Due to their economic scarcity but also because they believe in a clean country that maintains its roots.

Unfortunately the indigenous population is a group discriminated by most people so that to be able to incorporate them into our society first it needs to make a change of mentality since they are also inhabitants who also have rights and should not be forgotten and much less Make them pass so many necessities since they are history and roots of our nation and make up a large population so the country must also include them with actions and government plans to bring benefits to all these populations, whether cultural, economic, health and between others.

  15. I believe that there are 100% abandoned communities, there are many dedicated groups to help these communities.
The problem is that not everyone takes the necessary importance.
Nothing can be solved if only a group of people helps them. We should all help protect our roots.
We need them to have quality of life, basic services, clothing and education. Need quality health services.
They need to have opportunities to go out into the world and be accepted and valued.
All Costa Ricans could learn valuable things from the indigenous. But they should give them the opportunity to teach us.

  16. I think all the indigenous communities are always relegated and abandoned from the rest of Costa Rica. That is why they have a lot of needs no only in medical area but although in education and work opportunities. All those factors make that all the indigenous people have many diseases because they have no medicaments to prevent them.
Is very important that all these groups and institutions bring help to the people who deserve it, even it is not only problem of the private organizations. The government is the responsible to aid these communities and make sure that they have the minimal sources to live with dignity.
The indigenous communities are a very important part of our country, many of our traditions become from them and is our responsibility to preserve it. Thanks to many institutions they receive help, including food and medical help, so they can have a better life. Is our work to help them and try to involucrate to our community. The education is the main way to help the indigenous, so they can get better jobs. For many children who receive education, they learn a lot but also preserve their language and this is an important way to help the community.

  17. I think that indigenous communities are abandoned by the government. The attention of the Southern Command of the United States is great, but it is our government's responsibility. If this group of people from the United States had not come to provide this assistance, would the Indians have received medical or dental care? This attention must be permanent.
Our indigenous peoples need, first, government support and society must be more inclusive with this population. The TEC is making a great effort to increase the opportunities for the indigenous population to have access to higher education. We need to create better conditions for this population that are also part of our country.

  18. Most of Costa Rican people have access to a medical service close to our home, but the indigenous people have to walk hours or even days to go to a hospital, at best. In other cases they can´t walk and have to wait until someone call the doctors to go there.
Because of the difficult access to medical services, the indigenous people usually don´t take care of their health, so this cause they get sick most often and get hard to treat diseases.
Some of the indigenous woman have trouble to go to a medical center because they have a lot of kids and they can´t leave them alone, and their husbands have to work all day so they can eat.
I think indigenous people are abandon by the government, a lot of politicians make promises of helping them but a few keep their promises when they got the power. Indigenous people have a lot of problems like education, job opportunities, decent place to live, basic services, medical services, etc. And all of this are human’s rights that all people need to have.
We all are Costa Ricans, we all have the same rights, so I think it´s fair we all fight for the right of indigenous people to have access to all basic services no matter how far away they live.

  19. Costa Rican indigenous people are in a high degree of vulnerability and have very little access to public services and when they receive some of them they do so in very poor conditions. At least, in the case of the news, the Costa Rican doctors do it for free. If there was a salary for doing that job the attention would be much better. In addition, being free there are few doctors who offer to do so in those conditions where there is no hospital or medical center. And it is of great advantage that Americans collaborate in our country, but they will never be able to cover the whole indigenous zone so more medical attention is needed.

If you talk about education there is a large percentage of illiteracy and the average education they receive is 4 years old.

Housing conditions are deplorable, very poor conditions. They have a high percentage of Indians who receive water from an aqueduct.

Despite having an indigenous law, it is constantly violated. They need more help from the Costa Rican people. Join and make a difference.

  20. "Operation Pura vida", i like it, because this sound like a costa rica people.
This programm help a lot people, they does not have access to specialists, because they live far away the city.

There are cases where this people does not recibe help by be indigenous., in this country exist xenofobic and racism people.

The indigenous are united between themselves, but they have a problem with a relation with another people because be differents, starting with language , custom and Beliefs.

Also i think that they have more rights that we, because they are a first people for this country.

  21. Many of the indigenous people leave what has been established by law in our country as indigenous territory in search of better living conditions, so to determine whether a person is indigenous or not, under this requirement represents another limitation. On the other hand, it is not possible to recognize specific ethnic features as indigenous since, as this same census shows in the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica, a significant number of foreign natives and non-indigenous foreign population also live, Ethnic groups.
This sector of the Costa Rican population faces a series of omissions and violations of their human rights. They have historically been forgotten peoples as social action by the national government, and are usually remembered only when the time comes for the elections and, incidentally, not to defend their political rights; And when of them and of their riches it is wanted to profit.
